WordPress, Multisite and BuddyPress plugins, themes and support

The BuddyPress community is cranking out plugins just as fast as you decide that you need them; there are already seven new ones this month. Some of these plugins can be difficult to find unless you’re really looking, since they’re not all in the WordPress repository yet. A couple of these are answers to some of the most common hack requests in the BuddyPress forums. Most of us don’t have all day to sit around cruising the BuddyPress forums, as tempting as it may be sometimes. ;) However, you can always visit here for updates, news, and all the best tools available for WordPress and BuddyPress.

BuddyPress Auto Group Join

This plugin allows you to select certain groups you would like new members to be added to automatically. It will also automatically add existing members to the groups you select. This can be particularly handy if you want to enroll everyone in a “support group” or “announcements” type group.

BuddyPress Disable Email Activation

This plugin disables the email activation for a standard WordPress install with BuddyPress. The developer is still working on making it fully compatible with WPMU. Many people working with BuddyPress have requested this capability numerous times in the forums, so it’s definitely a much-needed plugin.

BuddyPress Group Email Subscription

If you have fairly active groups on your BuddyPress site, this plugin is a must have. It allows group members to receive email notifications for all types of group activity, including forum posts. There are five levels of email subscription options: No Email, Weekly Summary Email, Daily Digest Email, New Topics Email, and All Email. You can read more about the configuration options on the plugin’s download page.

BP System Report

This plugin gives analytical data about BuddyPress members, groups, and blogs. These statistical summaries give you a quick snapshot of your community and may help you to discover what’s working or not working in your community. I would recommend this for any BuddyPress installation.

BuddyPress Usernames Only

This plugin overrides display names across your BuddyPress site with usernames, which makes the @mentions feature more relevant to your users. You can keep up with the plugin on its announcement page.

BuddyPress Wiki Component

This plugin is a completely new version of the previous BuddyPress Group Wikis plugin and it now includes internationalization support, BuddyPress standards for ajax, function hooks, custom page templates, and more features on the way.

Jet QuickPress

Based on the BP QuickPress version 0.1.6 but with a fully-customizable visual editor added in for ease of use. It allows users to post blogs from the frontend of BuddyPress, instead of having to use the WordPress dashboard. It also offers a drop-down list of categories, choice of visual editor (lite, standard, customizable), and management access settings.

I hope you’ll be able to cross a few items off of your BuddyPress wishlist with a couple of these new plugins. If you’re currently writing a plugin and want it reviewed, drop us a note on Twitter.
