Access to important files on the go is a must-have for people who work on multiple computers and devices. Dropbox makes storing and sharing your files easy and that is why it’s one of the fastest-growing free services on the web. The Dropbox service is such an important part of its users’ workflow that Dropbox service-related plugins for WordPress are popping up everywhere. BackWPup has been my favourite plugin until I’ve tried to backup to DropBox: it always stops for time out errors, while uploading to DropBox.
The support ignores my reports about this issue.
So I’ll probably try one of the other plugins mentioned in this post.
Thanks.
Holy sweet mother! That’s freakin’ sweet!
I like the idea of Dropbox CDN. Will have to give it a whirl :)
Yeah me too…love smal hacks like that,
I use Backup Buddy from Ithemes. It gives you the option to BU to Dropbox. I use it for my personal sites and also for clients. Works like a charm!
A lot of great plugins. Will check em out soon!
I can’t wait to hear back from my theme forum. A couple of these sound terrific! Thanks for the info. :)
Best thing about Dropbox is that it feels so native. It is just part of your computer and behaves like a normal folder.
By the way: if you haven’t got a Dropbox account yet, use this link to sign up: http://db.tt/wzaY4wE
You will get a 250 MB extra storage space, for free!
Erik, what are you doing is not very nice: if everybody starts sharing his DropBox referral link, this post will be flooded by spam comments.
Thats of great help. I was just search about dropbox for wordpress, what a better place to get information that wpmu.org.
Thanks Sarah.
Avoid BackWPup!!!!!!!!!!!!
This plugin is unstable. It got me suspended from my hosting account….. I am not the only one that got in really bad trouble with his hosting company cause of this plugin.
I contacted the developer and the man has no clou what he is doing. He didn’t want to look at this really bad bug, cause he was working on an other plugin. His plugin got suspended from the WordPress repository for this, till he fixed it eventually. After that the all kind of problems with this plugin continued. This developer even chanced his code and broke functionality of his plugin without changing the version number, which got lot people into trouble, not having accurate backups of there blogs. Imaging what happens if you really on this plugin….
The plugin has a wonderful feature set, but the programming, is highly unreliable. If you use it, read the WordPress forum and ditch the thing. A backup function should be reliable, this plugin isn’t, it’s highly unstable.
My advice is: Stay away from it and rate it as broken as a warning to others.
A sweet alternative is http://www.nuffly.com. It also allows you to save most of the other major social network content incl. Blogger right in your dropbox.
Hi!
Anyone knows if there´s a Dropbox plugin that can allow multiple accounts?
The thing is, I have 5 member areas and each member group has their own designated page on the site that only they can reach (through wp members plugin). Group 1 can only reach “group page 1″, group 2 can only reach “group page 2″ and so on.
Each group has also a dropbox account. So, my goal is to let them reach their Dropbox content on their designated page, preferably through some sort of plugin.
Any clue from anyone?
Hope I made myself clear! :-)
Best,
Jake
I use this one http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/dropbox-plugin/
Odd that it wasn’t mentioned
I’ve had a lot of trouble trying to find a backup option that will work with Hostgator shared accounts. They always seem to time out.
I’m currently using ManageWp to backup my sites to dropbox. It’s simple and always works.
I too use Backup Buddy. However I was looking for a plugin in which I could actually access files in dropbox from the wp dashboard for collaboration purposes. Kind of lazy I know but hey, if you can, why not. While not a WP Plugin per se I did see this software demonstrated at a local demo camp: https://mybackupbox.com/ and thought it worth mentioning.
Check out my new Plugin at Wordrop.net. its a full broweser and gallery presentation for wordpress with dropbox data
