WordPress, Multisite and BuddyPress plugins, themes and support

Introduction

Everyone likes to receive comments on their blog, it helps to grow a community and makes you feel special as a blog owner to hear from the people who read your posts. I created the CommentLuv wordpress plugin to help give something back to every single commentator as well as entice them to come back and visit more often by automatically adding a titled link to their last blog post at the end of their comment. It’s done fantastically well with tens of thousands of comments every day receiving a little luv.

The Problem

The plugin would only work for self hosted, CURL enabled single user wordpress blogs, it added a couple of seconds to the processing time of the comment being posted and people wouldn’t know if it worked or not until after they commented.

The Solution

I proudly present the 2.0 version of CommentLuv! It is compatible with MU and with logged on users (except administrator replies) it finds the last blog post in the background while the user is typing their comment and displays it below the comment form. When they submit the comment, it automatically adds the last post using the text specified by the blog owner to the comment before submission. If no feed was found or their site was not contactable, it will show them what error has occurred before they submit.

Features

  • AJAX using default jQuery include
  • Compatible with MU
  • Compatible with logged on users
  • All browser side javascript so no extra load on the MU server.
  • It rewards your blog community automatically.

Installation

WordPress MU and WordPress

  1. Upload the commentluv folder to the regular plugins directory and activate it.
  2. Check the settings page in the dashboard and enter the ID values for your themes comment form
  3. Save the settings and check a single post as a user or logged out to see it working.

Requirements

This plugin needs to use the ID value of the comment form (usually #commentform) and the name or id value for the URL, Author name and Comment textarea fields.

You can set the ID or Name value in the settings page. Just enter the Name or ID value in the relevant text field and select if it is the ID or Name identifier. (for the comment form ID, precede the value with #)

Download

Download CommentLuv version 2.0 Beta

This is a stable version that has been running live on my personal blogs and on a few beta testers. If all goes well, it’ll get a full 2.0 version release on the codex. This is my entry to the WordPress MU plugin contest. If you like this plugin and you think your blog community might use it please vote for it when the time comes… thanks!

You can see it in action here and here

Support is here and I welcome any suggestions or improvements you might have!

Note: I am running a quick 100$ contest for people who use this and help me give it a large scale test before the plugin contest closing date and provide feed back. You can read about that here
