WordPress To Change ‘Posts’ to ‘Blog’ in Next Version?

We’ve preached about the need to simplify the WordPress dashboard before, and just a few minutes ago one such change was proposed in the WordPress Trac.

This change is simple:

1. Change the ‘Posts’ menu item to ‘Blog’

2. Move the ‘Pages’ and ‘Comments’ menus up above ‘Media’

The idea is that the difference between posts and pages is often confusing for new users and this should help make it more clear.

We are a bit torn on if this really is a good move, so thought it might be worth asking you here.

Major Changes in the Use of WordPress in Education

I was first introduced to the world of WordPress in 2008 when I was looking for a good way to build a website for a math course I was teaching. My school offered an archaic website solution and, though I don’t remember why, I first tried out both Drupal and Joomla.

All I wanted was a quick and easy way to post notes, videos, and assignments for my students – and provide parents and students an easy way to subscribe to new posts by email.

From SXSW: Should Your WordPress Site Seek Funding or Venture Capital?

Ever since Twitter first gained popularity at the annual SXSW Interactive festival in Austin, Texas, it has become known as the place for start-ups to try and make a name for themselves.

I’m coming to you from the Blogger Lounge (no relationship with Goolge’s ‘Blogger’ by the way), where one of the ongoing themes that continues to permeate the conversations here is companies raising crazy amounts of money to fund development and launch new products.

Privacy Plugin Update: Easily Password Protect Entire Blog

Just a quick update about a new feature released in the popular Multisite Privacy plugin.

For years, this plugin has been a must on any Multisite network – giving users more options to choose from when it comes to privacy settings on their blogs.

One of the limitations to making blogs private (important in education, group discussion blogs, etc.) has been that you needed to first create user accounts and add users to a blog. That can be kind of a pain!
