bbPressWe’ve been following each beta release of the bbPress plugin and now the final 2.0 release is here, coinciding with BuddyPress 1.5! bbPress 2.0 brings forums into WordPress in a simple and natural way. It also now integrates perfectly with BuddyPress and Akismet with no additional configurations to make. Long gone are the days of pulling out your hair to get forums working with WordPress!

Why is bbPress 2.0 awesome? John James Jacoby sums up what’s new in the announcement blog:

Simply by activating bbPress 2.0, any standard WordPress theme is suddenly capable of having support forums, user profiles, topic tags, and custom topic views. Your users are able to mark topics as favorites to read them later, and can subscribe to be notified via email to topic replies, so they never miss out on the conversation.

Want to see the bbPress plugin in action? Check it out on the BuddyPress Test Drive site or view it in action on WPCandy or the DevPress forums.

How to Upgrade to bbPress 2.0:

Here are the official instructions from the bbPress blog:

If you already have a previous version installed, updating to 2.0 is easy with the bbPress Importer. Move your bbPress 1.0 powered content into your new WordPress/bbPress installation and you’re ready to go. (There is already a migration plugin in the works for other forum software that promises to be pretty amazing, too!)

Download the latest bbPress 2.0 plugin release for free from the WordPress plugin repository. You can’t go wrong with this one – it’s well-supported by a stellar team of developers and is already in use on many major publications.

  1. What an awesome day! Thanks to everyone who worked on bbpress and buddypress!

  2. I’m waiting for forum attachments (plugin) to work and it’ll be a great product.

  3. Integrates perfectly with BuddyPress, except that you lose the ability to view your Favorited Topics and the list of topics you’ve created, and whatever else was on the site.com/user/myname page.

  4. “What good is a forum without search?”

    Features:

    * Extends WordPress’ native search to include forums, topics, and replies.
    * Corrects permalinks in search results.
    * Fixes typo in bbPress Login widget for all languages, removing the proceeding quote in the submit button.

This plugin promotes user forum participation as the search results include corrected permalinks that take you right to the forum, topic, and replies.
