waow, h-mag looks solid! love all the jquery scripts =) i wish i had my new one up but that’s gonna take a while, haha…
Wow! All of us here at h-MAG.com are completely ecstatic about being listed. Thank you so much for the inclusion. Even though we’ve just launched, we’re already hard at work on additional features for the site.
@mike i <3 JQuery. Period! thank you for the complements!
Hum, oh, thanks… i did not know my site would bring any interest before it is open… :)
There’s a great bunch of great sites in the list, and there is a lot of things we can do with a WPMU website, just play with it!!!
;)
Mmmmm – fantastic BuddyPress goodness! Great post…fabulous sites. Really excited about the explosion of BuddyPress and looking forward to seeing more innovative and creative BP amazingness come out of the design community :)
Wow, thanks for featuring Indie Threads. I’m glad you think that it deserves to be presented with other great designs.
Thank you so much for featuring our website. It’s come a long way since the beginning, and still only just the start but thank you so much. Great to see so many other sites using the buddypress system all with different looks and features :D
Thanks for including us in your line up!!! We’re still developing the site and are really loving the buddypress platform – looking forward to seeing the platform grow and develop….
Thank you so much for putting together this list, Sarah! Fantastic
What’s the point of this silly post? To show people what buddypress can be if you spend tons of dollars getting a professional template???
Stop writing trash and either offer templates for a reasonable price or upgrade the main buddypress theme to reflect something like the above….
eye-candy it is indeed, but I can’t really call it inspirational. Now I’m all depressed. Our site is miles away from looking unique. WPMU+BP is certainly a great platform and we’re having lots’o fun & succes with it, but for the css-impaired like me it’s only wishfull thinking to create a site like these on a shoestring budget and with only so many hours in a week.
Nonetheless, good to see what can be achieved (and hopefull that support for BP will only grow stronger this way)
Hey Nathan Smith, for centuries mankind has promoted good design and paid well to see artistic visions realized. Before you slag a post that has been an encouragement to many, why don’t you consider the excellence of the themes displayed here. If it makes you too self conscious of your own designs’ shortcomings, maybe you should consider paying a professional if you want professional results. Or you could get inspired and make a theme yourself. I’m sure the folks at WPMU would be happy to host it so that others can download it for free. But you will probably do neither of these things. I can surmise from your attitude that you think beautiful things have no value…unless you can get them for free and capitalize from the hard work of others.
There are a number of good (both free and not) BuddyPress themes coming down the pipe. It’s taken a while because (I would imagine) of the change in the way themes were put together after 1.0v.
2010 is the year for BuddyPress.
Thanks for the comments guys. I believe that the more people get inspired about BuddyPress theming, the more designers will become involved and the more free as well as paid themes will be available. We try to provide helpful posts here about ways to enhance the design and functionality of your buddypress installation even if you can’t afford a fancy theme professional. There’s nothing wrong with showcasing a few sites who have made the investment simply because they value good design.
@nathansmith two of my designs are featured above, both were created as side projects done by and for myself within a short space of time, although the other designs really stand out anything can be achieved either by using wp templates or simple theme modifications.
@sarah thanks for featuring both @eveningpints and @delicioussnaps, both work in progress and fun side projects for me
Thanks for listing the Teatro Mágico website here, Sarah!
For who would be interested to have a look and try to do something similar (without spending tons of dollars), the template is downloadable here: http://yorikvanhavre.deviantart.com/art/Teatro-Magico-BuddyPress-theme-143580487
The CSS file might be is a bit messy, sorry about that…
Eye-candy equals something gorgeous to look at for inspiration. Aside from the good looks is the quality information presented. Although the sites are nice-looking, they don’t appear to be only a ‘pretty face’ for BuddyPress.
It is an honor to be included as one of the WPMU / BuddyPress eye candy selections, many thanks from TeamViva!
We are very excited to share our site which recently launched. We used a custom theme which we created originally for a Ruby on Rails website, but we found BuddyPress to be so user friendly that we switched over and love it!
Here is an article written by Terry Chay of Automattic about a recent demo I gave on the architecture and development of Vivanista, http://terrychay.com/article/vivanista.shtml

How can you list Cultura Digital as one of the best? It has bugs all around it! Users can’t perform even a simple task like editing a post or deleting a scrap they wrote there. They’re not good advertisement material for wordpress.
Thanks for including culturadigital.br in your list. We are very proud of it! We are in beta version, fixing possible bugs that arise.
Could you give me your email address? I would like to write a post in our blog.

thank you so much for putting together this list, Sarah..
