WordPress To Change ‘Posts’ to ‘Blog’ in Next Version?

We’ve preached about the need to simplify the WordPress dashboard before, and just a few minutes ago one such change was proposed in the WordPress Trac.

This change is simple:

1. Change the ‘Posts’ menu item to ‘Blog’

2. Move the ‘Pages’ and ‘Comments’ menus up above ‘Media’

The idea is that the difference between posts and pages is often confusing for new users and this should help make it more clear.

We are a bit torn on if this really is a good move, so thought it might be worth asking you here.

WordPress Stuck in Maintenance Mode

Has your WordPress site ever gotten stuck in maintenance mode? Many people seem to run into this problem. They update a WordPress theme or plugin or maybe even WordPress itself, and in the middle of the update, something goes wrong, and their site gets stuck in maintenance mode with nothing appearing but the message, “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”

Not only are visitors locked out, but even the Admin is locked out of the backend.

If this happens to you, try one of the following solutions.

Major Changes in the Use of WordPress in Education

I was first introduced to the world of WordPress in 2008 when I was looking for a good way to build a website for a math course I was teaching. My school offered an archaic website solution and, though I don’t remember why, I first tried out both Drupal and Joomla.

All I wanted was a quick and easy way to post notes, videos, and assignments for my students – and provide parents and students an easy way to subscribe to new posts by email.
