Publish Photos from Your iPhone Directly to WordPress with Camera+ App

According to a recent announcement from WordPress, Apple iPhone users with the Camera+ 3.0 photo app can now publish photos directly to their blogs.

You will also need to be running the WordPress app for iOS 2.9.5 or higher.

The goal is ease of use, and it seems it couldn’t get much easier. These are the instructions for posting a photo:
Tap “Add Photo from Camera+,” and your phone switches to the Camera+ app – select a photo to load it into the WordPress app. Add a Title and a Description (both optional), and boom! You’re done.”

Alert! Google Announces a New SEO Over-Optimization Penalty

At a recent SWSX session titled “Dear Google & Bing: Help Me Rank Better!” Matt Cutts from Google’s Spam Team announced a new algorithm change coming in a matter of weeks/months designed to penalize “over optimized” sites.

A questioner asked if Google was doing anything about the situation where a Mom & Pop website is being outranked by less relevant but more extensively SEO’ed sites.

Coming Soon in BuddyPress 1.6: Profile Field Privacy Options

BuddyPress developer Boone Gorges announced today on the BP Development Blog that BuddyPress 1.6 will include some basic privacy options for user profile fields. This new feature will be called “Visibility”. Having some form of profile privacy is one of the most-requested features for BuddyPress and very soon it will be a reality.

Individual users will be able to edit their profile field visibility on a field-by-field basis.

WARNING: WordPress Site Hacks on the Rise

A number of web security companies have recently reported a dramatic increase in attacks on WordPress sites. Approximately 30,000 sites have been infected at last count, with most being based in the U.S.

The goal of the attacks seems to be to distribute rogue antivirus software. According to web security company Websense, “The injection hijacks visitors to the compromised sites and redirects them to rogue AV sites that attempt to trick them into downloading and installing a Trojan onto their computer.”

How to Migrate from Posterous to WordPress

Big news on the internet this week is that Twitter has acquired Posterous. It’s still unclear what will happen with Posterous Spaces but this acquisition will potentially affect thousands of regular bloggers.

Posterous’ Official Statement:
Posterous Spaces will remain up and running without disruption. We’ll give users ample notice if we make any changes to the service. For users who would like to back up their content or move to another service, we’ll share clear instructions for doing so in the coming weeks.
