Introducing BigBang – a Premium Responsive Portfolio Theme for WordPress

I tend to review more plugins than themes here on WPMU. After all, you can use multiple plugins on a website, but only one theme.

But every now and then, I find a theme that I can’t help but review. Something that gives me a proverbial slap around the face and demands my attention.

Today I have received such a slap, from a premium responsive portfolio theme available on ThemeForest called BigBang. If you’re in the market for a new theme, this is something you need to take a close look at.

WordPress Theme Team Releases Free Underscores Starter Theme

In February the folks at ThemeShaper, the home of the Automattic Theme Team, released Underscores, or _s for short. Anyone can download the _s theme at github, but in order to fork it, you previously had to make a number of search and replace substitutions.

The good news is that this is no longer the case, thanks to the new Underscores.me website. It allows you to generate your own Underscores-based theme with your custom theme name and the search and replace already complete.

What’s so cool about Underscores?

vCard: A Free Business Card Theme for WordPress

A month or two ago, I managed to snaffle tomewer.com. I did so on the expectation that at some point, I would create a “business card” website for myself. Ever since, I’ve been on the lookout for business card style themes that might suit such a site.

If you feel that you should have a business card website (i.e. something that touts your wares in much the same way as a traditional business card does), vCard is a simple, no frills solution:

Pinboard: Impressive Free WordPress Theme with Lots of Design Options

Although obviously billed as a Pinterest-style theme, the great thing about the new free Pinboard theme is that it’s so much more than that.

While you can obviously make your site look like a “pinboard,” you can make it look like a regular blog, a business site, a portfolio site, or a combination of those things.

The power behind all this flexibility lies in theme’s framework and grid system. For the user, this appears most readily in the easy-to-use customization panels found in the Admin area.

For example, here’s a look at some layout options for the homepage.
