Clearly humans have replaced bots in the splogging business

You would think, in fact I did think, that the majority of splogs would be automatically created by clever bots toiling their way through smart, captcha-breaking scripts.

But you’d be wrong, quite seriously wrong, because these days I’d guesstimate that the majority of splogs are human powered – and thus that much harder to catch.

How do I know this?

Because they email us on a daily basis, in their dozens, because Anti Splog (which we have on Edublogs) shuts them down after a few clearly sploggy posts and they are greeted with this:

And you would not believe the number of real, genuine, people that fill out that form.

Here’s a few choice recent ones :)

I like this because it’s clearly a native speaker of English :)

And all of those are literally taken from the last 24 hours…. god knows how many human sploggers don’t bother to contact us too.

But, fortunately, with Anti Splog we’re blocking the bots and hustling the humans!

  1. Hi James the WPMUDEV team are doing great work with really great plugins, themes and support. Well done with anti splog plugin and the many others. Have lots of fun.

  2. These sploggers are amazing though aren’t they! I mean writing whole paragraphs to try to get their blogs back is out of control… needless to say we don’t get back to them ;)

  3. A few months ago (I think), Akismet did a blog post saying the same thing. They also discovered that a lot of these human spammers were being hired in third world nations.
So basically CAPTCHA’s are dead now, and now I’m forced to moderate all commets due to some very unfamily friendly links.

Perhaps I should make registration a requirement for commenting?

  4. So that’s what Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa have been doing all these years…

My favorite was the “14-year-old” who was doing a fetish sex site and how she was going to tell “mommy” on me coming from a server in theplanet/ev1 space.
