Many of us are sitting on the edge of our seats in anticipation of the official BuddyPress 1.6 release. This weekend the BuddyPress development team released BuddyPress 1.6 RC2. We’re now closer than ever to the 1.6 release and can expect it very soon. If you want to be ready ahead of time, go ahead and download RC2 from WordPress.org and make sure your theme and plugins will be compatible.
BuddyPress 1.5.7 was also released this weekend. It’s a security release that addresses an important bug. If you’re using BuddyPress 1.5+, you can upgrade to BuddyPress 1.5.7 immediately without any problem.

1.5.7 is *only* a security fix. It adds filtering to prevent users from setting their username or displayname to include HTML which could result in various exploits (such as session hijacking or automation).
