WordPress Multisite networks have the perennial problem of users who sign up for their own site but never post or do anything with it. If you have hundreds or thousands of blogs, it can be a time consuming project to go through and hide sites that are completely inactive.
Hide Inactive Sites is a new plugin only for use on multisite networks. It uses WP_Cron to update and hide inactive sites based on the routine checks you set. The developer, Eric Juden, has created a filter in the plugin to edit the query of the sites that are returned. He’s also included hooks to enable other developers to add additional custom options to each of the settings.

If you want to automate the process of hiding inactive sites, download the Hide Inactive Sites plugin for free from the WordPress repository. It will keep your network focused on showcasing the most active sites, instead of being a gateway for hundreds of empty blogs.
Simply insert google maps into posts, sidebars and pages - show directions, streetview, provide image overlays and do it all from a simple button and comprehensive widget.

thats nice but it is only half-way. I really wish someone would take this code and fix it: http://pastebin.com/kUx2bpZm
It used to work perfectly a few years ago :-(
Nice. It’s just too bad there is no option for selecting only those sites that don’t have more than x number of posts. Many of our Tripawds Blogs have been inactive for more than a year, but they still include plenty of helpful content in older posts.
With this being the case, we would never want to hide these sites. But having the ability to hide them – or better yet, delete them and all their associated db tables – would be a nifty db management tool for WP multisite.
check out my link and read the description, that could be a nice starting point…
Thanks, I just noticed that. We were apparently commenting at the same time.
Hey guys,
Thanks for featuring my plugin! And thanks for the feedback. I’m a daily reader of wpmu.org. I’ll see what I can do to integrate some of your suggestions. I like the idea of getting an email of what actually took place.

Oh this will be very useful on a couple of my sites. Thanks Eric!
Hey everyone,
I just updated the plugin with a couple of new options:
1. Exclude sites based on the blog id
2. Ability to check for a minimum number of blog posts on each site.
Awesome! Thanks for this plugin and for adding the new features!
Any option for different options for 1)de-activating, 2) archiving 3)deleting blogs/sites automatically that are not updated or inactive ? I believe the current option just allow us to hide from Search engines and not public view or access
