Plugin Commander is a plugin for managing WordPress Multisite plugins that are activated network-wide. If you have a large Multisite network, you may want to consider installing this one. It has recently been updated for WordPress 3.0.

Features of Plugin Commander:

  • Mark any plugin in the plugins directory to be automatically activated for new blogs.
  • Mass activate or deactivate a plugin for all existing blogs.
  • Choose which plugins users can activate and deactivate through Manage->Plugins
  • Activate and deactivate plugins for specific blogs, even if the blog owner is not allowed to control those plugins.

  1. Also worth mentioning is that someone took Aaron’s MP Plugin Commander and made it Wp 3 compatible. In my opinion it is far superior to Plugin Commander. See here for the story and the download link: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-management-vs-plugin-commander-in-wp3?replies=8

  2. The one I’m referring to was updated from this one: http://firestats.cc/wiki/WPMUPluginCommander
which has always been free, if I’m not mistaken … ?? Anyone feel free to chime in here. ;)

  3. You are absolutely right. I was just adding the info that Plugin Commander’s competitor is now also wp 3.0 compatible and a better choice than Plugin Commander.

  4. i’m relatively new to this and there seems to be a ton of information, but with the recent merger or wpmu into wordpress the information seems to be a bit disjointed…i’m interested in running a wp multisite network with the sites being all buddypress sites….could you please recommended a good starting point for reference?

  5. Interesting article, I invite others to read :)
