Daily Tip: Updates to WordPress 3.0 Coding Standards

Did you know that WordPress has a guide to its Coding Standards in the codex? These guidelines were written in hopes to gradually improve PHP markup used with WordPress to maintain a consistent style so the code can remain clean and easy to read at a glance.

You may already be in the habit of doing most of these things, but in case you’re new to WordPress coding, this guide is worth looking over.

Two updates to the Coding Standards for WordPress 3.0:

No more camelcase for variables, functions, file names, and operators:

function some_name( $some_variable ) { [...] }

Files should be named descriptively using lowercase letters. Hyphens should separate words:

my-plugin-name.php
