We recently made our fancy WordPress PopUp plugin available for free in the WordPress plugin repository. The PopUp plugin is a highly effective tool for getting visitors connected to your mailing list or simply showing ads.
We are big fans of this plugin and have used it on wpmu.org to offer popover ads for WPMU DEV. Visitors who come to WPMU DEV via the popover ads view double the number of pages and stay doubly as long as visitors that come via Adwords.
This plugin has quite a bit of built-in flexibility to it so that you can use it exactly where you want it, instead of being forced to display the popup in one way across the board.
Features for flexible implementation:
- Activate the plugin across your multisite network by dropping it in the /mu-plugins/ folder -or-
- Allow control for individual sites on your network by placing the plugin in the /plugins/ directory
- Options for showing the popover based on if the visitor is not logged in, visitor has never commented before, visitor did not come from an internal page, visitor has seen the pop over less than X times.
- Includes a link allowing users to click it and never see the popover again
The best part is that this plugin is ridiculously easy to use. Simply paste in your ad code. It can be Javascript, text, an image, or any combination. You don’t need to be a developer to have this working on your website in a matter of a couple minutes.
Without having to touch a line of code you’ll be able to select the popup’s size, borders, background color, position and even font color.
I hope you’re already beginning to imagine all of the possibilities. Read Siobhan’s tutorial to find out how to use the popover plugin to promote your mailing list and grab new members. Get your copy of the WordPress PopUp plugin for free from the repository and start experimenting with new ways to reach your potential customers.

Great! It seems exactly what I was looking for!
after installing .. and if i try to activate the plugin.. the error is coming
“The plugin does not have a valid header.”
what to do now?
Attempting to install from WordPress.org repository, message in browser says, “The plugin does not have a valid header.”

Looks like that is a problem with the auto-installer – we’re looking into it right now.
This should be fixed now. It seems like the auto-installer didn’t like the fact that the archive contained both the plugin and a debug plugin in the same file. The debug plugin has been removed for now.
Thanks for your patience.
Hi Sarah,
Any idea if it is possible to make this pop-up conditionally depending on whether the user is not logged in.
I.e. if user appears on the site a login appears, saying – “Click here to register or login”
Would be cool.
Cheers
My pop up looks great except it only fits in half the box. The bottom half is plain white with nothing. If I adjust the popover size, it just increases the blank area. Am I missing something simple?
Thanks
I think popups are the perfect way to drive people away from your site. I find them very annoying and they are often the reason I break off my visit to a site. I can’t believe you still consider this a clever strategy.
I just installed this plugin but my options screen looks different than above and I can’t get it to work.
Seem pretty straight forward to me. I added an image that I want to show to all new users coming to the site. Set my prefs but nada.
Help please
Jeremy
The best thing to do is to post on the forum: http://wordpress.org/tags/wordpress-popup?forum_id=10 Our developers check there for new support requests.
Groovy! Thank you Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I have not had time to look at your plugin just yet, however, I was wondering If it is possible to embed a flash video into the popup window?
Very nice plugin! Is there a way to re-use the plugin for like the search engine, social networks, etc.?
Hey Sarah
Very cool plugin.
Though you say you can customize the ‘borders’ of the pop up, i see no place to do so. I cant even locate the css.
There is that thick gray border around the popup that I would love to deactivate.
Any ideas?
Thanks for a good pop up…:)
Thank you Sarah!!!!
Cool Sarah!
It seems exactly what I was looking for :-)
Hello,
nice plugin, but its not really im looking for, – i need one, that shows a popup after clicking a link in a sidebar or contentpage. Not found so far..
Nevermind, – good work.
Cheers,
Orwell
Thank you so much for making the full version of PopUp available on the repository!
I could only say this for the plugin – Elegant, Simple and the Best po-up plugin I have ever used…
Very nice..thx u so much

Great plugin, however, the ability to display popups to logged in users isn’t working, in fact, when set to display to both logged in users and logged out users, neither rule seems to work. This is on WP 3.2.1. Could just be an incompatibility with other installed plugins. Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Thanks a lot for this, was looking for a popup plugin for ages! Found this one and it’s just what I’m looking for!
Hi thanks for plug in, is there any way to display plugin on single page instead home page?
Thanks
Ive yet to find an effective pop up plugin that formats the dialog properly in WP 3.3.x. Looks like this one has similar issues?
Everything seemed to work fin until i wanted to drag and drop the rules. It just seems to highlight the rules when i try to pick them up . Has anyone else had this problem…any solutions thanks
This looks exactly what I am after, is it still working after the recent WP update?
I believe this is incorrect, didn’t work on my WPMU. THe wordpress plugin site, says just to drop in regular plugin directory. WHich seems to work for me.
Activate the plugin across your multisite network by dropping it in the /mu-plugins/ folder
Hi
I’ve got a questio, regarding the “visitor has seen the pop over less than X times” option. Is it pr day, per month?
thanks!
Hi,
another question please, does it support shortcodes ?
