WordPress MU and BuddyPress resources tend to be scattered across the wild wilderness of the internet. WPMU.org aims to be the best source for tools, news, and information to help you build and operate successful blog or social networks. We’ve scoured the internet for a few of the best free BuddyPress themes compatible with BuddyPress 1.1. There are also a number of exceptional premium BuddyPress themes to be found at WPMU Dev Premium, all of which are available in pleasing pre-set color palettes, work smoothly with Facebook Connect, and ship with a robust theme options page for a wide range of control from the dashboard. You will be hard pressed to find compatible BuddyPress themes as clean and polished as these. Save yourself loads of time and grab a premium theme. Your other option is to design and build your own or modify a free theme, which depends entirely upon your skills and how much support you need. Either way, we’re happy to point you in the right direction for resources that will be helpful to your installation.

The free themes selected here are compatible with BuddyPress 1.1, which operates on the new theme architecture, utilizing child themes. You’re going to want to get a solid handle on the subject of child themes before building with the new theme framework.

It’s a great time for designers and developers to collaborate. The BuddyPress community is still relatively small, so contributions will have a greater chance of being recognized at this pivotal time. 1. Are you sure the theme named Facebuddy is 1.1 compatible? Everything I’ve read, not to mention my own efforts lead me to believe compatibility broke with the move from BP 1.0 to 1.1.

  2. entrem no meu 8 p ou no meu msn ou no meu orkut {cledinhabbb-@hotmail.com

  3. Having examined the way 1.1 handles templating, I don’t think FaceBuddy can possibly be compatible, which sucks.

Surely those wise theme developers out there realize that if they created nice BuddyPress themes for reasonable prices, some of us would BUY them.

  4. Indeed. That’s why it’s a great time for designers and developers to collaborate. Huge shortage of theses out there right now that cannot possibly keep up with how fast buddypress is growing.

  5. From what I can tell none of these themes work with the current version of buddypress

  7. So do they work or not? I’m trying to use facebuddy now and it definitely does not.

  8. They do not.

However, there is a lovely set of new WPMU premium themes that do, and may fit your needs.

  9. All my BuddyPress themes work with the current version of BP 1.2 (at this time),
when BP udates, so does my themes as well.

  10. Oh I yes! False header! Stupid post, I will have another look at WordPress, I probably will not bother with Buddypress!
