Newspaper style themes are some of the most popular on the web because they feature some of the best blogging has to offer – cool teaser posts with scalable thumbnail images, interesting typography, featured category views, ad placement, and more.
That’s why we were excited to try out the new creatively titled (and FREE) theme, Newspaper, from the gang at Fearless Flyer.

Newspaper is a modern and free responsive WordPress theme in a 3 column newspaper layout, content in the middle and sidebars to the right and left. Of course, this layout is nothing new, but, as mentioned before, what makes this theme unique is its responsiveness, interesting typography, and use of a featured slider.
As you add new posts, the theme automatically places those posts as teasers on the home page, and pulls from that post the featured image to display in the home page slider – a tweaked version of the Flex Slider.
Just below the slider are thumbnails of those featured images, which rotate out as new posts are added. Those image thumbnails repeat again in the post teaser view.
Overall, the stock version of this theme is very visual, and does well in catching your eye. And that’s why typography is so important – the text flows well and pulls your eyes naturally from the sidebar to the featured content and down to the thumbnails for a very efficient read.

Single post pages are highly stylized with comment quote counters, a dark page background – putting the focus on text/content, and a really cool full-width featured post image.
Best of all, this theme is easy to use. It includes a simple options panel which allows you to quickly add a logo, add banner images/ads with hyperlinks, and to toggle the featured slider on or off.
