When it comes to designing your comment form, convenience is absolutely key. If a user is required to create an account with your site before they can comment, you might as well ask them to fetch you a beer from the moon. It’s probably not going to happen. However, if you can give them the option to comment with an account they’ve already set up, then you will be much more likely to get some interaction.
That’s why we wrote Comments Plus for WPMU.org. It gives users the ability to comment via Facebook, Twitter, Google or WordPress IDs.

After we started using this plugin on WPMU.org, we had quite a few readers ask how to implement it. Today we’re delighted to release Comments Plus so that you can get the exact same commenting convenience on your own site.
Features of Comments Plus:
- This plugin effectively allows you to combine comments from all these different services, rather than picking just one
- If users choose Facebook or Twitter, their comments are posted by default to their own accounts, give your site some extra exposure!
- Fully integrated with subscribe by email for Facebook and Google
- Works beautifully with any theme (and if you have any issues we’ll help you to get it working with your theme)
Want to test it out? Just leave a comment below using your Facebook, Twitter, Google or WordPress ID.
You’ll need to have a Twitter and Facebook app set up to enable commenting through those services, but it’s very easy and the plugin guides you through the process.
Comments Plus will inspire more comments on your WordPress site, giving you vital feedback and promoting user interaction. Once you have it installed, commenting becomes irresistibly easy when a user doesn’t have to sign up for an account. Not only will Comments Plus boost interaction on your site, it will also attract new visitors as you gain extra exposure on major social networks. Download it today!
ok this is awesome. i thought it is built in or something like that
Great!
Any plans to incorporate BuddyPress? If I’m logged in, does it treet that as a WordPress login?
This does look like a great plug-in but then it does bring up an interesting question. What is the best commenting system for WordPress? Is it the native commenting system built-in plus the addition of a plug-in like Comments Plus? Or is it better to use a plug-in like Disqus, Live Fyre, Instant Debate?
I was wondering the same thing Peter. I just wrote up a review of Livefyre on my blog. One thing that irked me the most was that Livefyre trumps other WordPress plugins that I have installed such as Comment Re-direct and Comment Reply Notification.
Does Comments Plus trump those plugins? I rather liked re-directing fist time commentors to a new page, and being able to style my reply emails.
PS – When I attempted to sign in to other accounts during the comment process, the whole body of my comment disappeared and I had to start over again.
hi Janice, I just visited your blog and I made a comment on your post. That was a great article that you wrote.

This looks interesting!
Checking out this pluggin for WordPress
I will try it
@wpmuorg this is not fair. why did you said that you will release fo Free and now it is paid ?
in this article :
We’ve had a rug rethink! Check out the new WPMU.org…
it is written : ” We’ve developed a brand new plugin called Comments plus, that we’ll shortly be releasing for free, that powers our comments section.”
There will be a cool free version out soon :)
Looking forward to the free version! :-)
Something very similar is implemented in WordPress.com blogs and will be available for free as a part of automattic JetPack very soon.
Thanks for sharing this – I had noticed the new comments on WordPress.com and was wondering if/when that would be available to self-hosted WodPress blogs.
Very nice! Been looking for something like this; saves me time building one now :D
looks cool
Very convenient interface. Now where do I go to find out how to get it? :-)
Cool! Can I buy just this plugin and not a whole subscription?
Yes, indeed! http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/comments-plus
Just testing how this works. Are you able to style this plug-in with the css files if you wish too?
Nice looking plug-in. Thanks
Does this plugin import and still display previous comments from both WordPress form and Facebook Comments for WordPress plugin? Thanks.
No it doesn’t. It allows users to comment using their own individual accounts.
ah bummer but I do think this is the best implementation of comments I have seen yet so its a good thing I dont have too many on my site.
Still an import function would be great especially for sites with a lot of comments.
I wonder if I use the same app id for the Facebook comments if they will still show up?
This is absolutely a very cool plugin. Wonder if this will actually encourage readers to leave comments. One thing is for sure, it makes it a lot easier. Good one! Will check it out…

This is a great plugin..
Beautiful plugin.
Lovely! :)
nice plugin. i’ll try
hmmm. I think I’ll try this…
Nice! Now will it work with Google Plus..?
Hmm photo import or not? *tests*
Definitely trying this out.
woow
I”m interested in trying it out.
This is nice!
nice
to be clear, does this work with plain vanilla wordpress?
Yes
simple and clean plugin
Awesome plugin!
all this seems great
Can this plugin be translated easily? Also, I am not sure if it’s accepted by Facebook or not but, can you hide the post to my wall option when you get the initial permission when connecting with the Facebook account?
Thanks!
It’s hard to make a decision. Disqus and Livefyre both offer the same sort of multi-medium login. They’re free, but this is $19. Hm…
Would installing this plugin mess with my Askimet service? It does a very good job of filtering out spam comments and I wouldn’t want to lose that.
No it would not affect Akismet at all so it would carry on filtering out your spam comments, nothing to worry about there.
Testing…
just testing =)
I’m testing too :)
