If it gives you any comfort, the fresh install is a breeze actually! You won't have to worry about the multi steps that you have been following for the earlier installs. It takes less than a minute! Please remove it and update your server rewrite rules to use wp-includes/ms-files.php instead." I did not do a frswh install and just overwrote the files. Let me know if I need a fresh install.
