Pagination: How to Split a WordPress Post into Multiple Pages

This simple trick will let you split a single page or post up into multiple pages. Just switch to the HTML screen in your editor, and then add the following code wherever you’d like.

<!--nextpage-->

You can add this piece of code as many times as you like, depending on how many pages you want.

And that’s it. No plugins or anything else needed.

  1. Hello,

    is possible modify the pagination to:

    Page 1 – Title Page
    Page 2 – Title Page
    Page 3 – Title Page

    Can you explain me how make this?

    Thank you,
    Regards!

    • Hello Everlind – That is probably possible, but to be honest, I’m not sure exactly how you’d set that up. You’d need to play with some CSS. You might ask in the wordpress.org forums. … Sorry I couldn’t be more help.

        • Lena – I’m sure that could be done with some type of plugin, but you would need to rig an existing plugin to do that or build one. For example, I know that there are Adsense/Advertising plugins that let you put in ad code after a certain number of paragraphs. So you could just substitute in the “nextpage” code for the ad code.

          So you can search around for plugins that let you do that. For example, this one from WPMU DEV will let you do that type of thing: http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/in-post-ads/

  2. Hey, Thanks for the tip, however I tried it on my post but it shows the next pages after my LinkWithin and Social Profiles buttons making it very difficult for readers to “flip the page”. Do you know how to make the next pages appear exactly after the text?

    • Livia – There may be something you can do in your theme’s template files that can help with that. I’m afraid I’m not the person to ask, however. You’ll need to find someone who knows the ins and outs better than I do. And of course things will depend on exactly how your theme is set up. You may be able to find some help on the WordPress.org forums. … Sorry I couldn’t be more help.
