The new WordPress Twenty Twelve default theme is coming along nicely. Drew Strojny and the team are working to have it ready for the WordPress 3.5 release. Today he offered an update on the Theme Foundry blog, outlining the progress and what they’re shooting for with this new theme:
Twenty Twelve isn’t finished yet, but all the major styling is complete. The goal was to design a clean, minimal, and responsive theme, with a focus on typography and readability.
The theme has come a long way from the first sketches seen back in April of this year.

Check out Twenty Twelve in action by visiting the live demo, currently hosted on WordPress.com.
Drew Strojny will be posting more blogs on the design decisions and processes during work on the theme, so make sure you’re subscribed to the Theme Foundry blog.

Too much white space again…
The new Twenty Twelve theme looks brilliant. I’ve been waiting for something like this for God knows how long.
Thanks so much for bring this to my notice. Cheers. B-)
I absolutely love it. I love how clean and simple it is – so much that I might actually use it for my clients’ sites, rather than shoot over to themeforest, etc. to find its replacement. :)
Realy neat look, clean typography, and I guess minimalism always rocks!
you guys should use a Elegant theme or something…for real lol
here i have tried to make something new out of twenty ten theme by modifying it, adding many feature in it. have a look at it http://www.technotips.org/technotips-twenty-ten-wordpress-theme-modification
One change this so frequently desired is to have the page title of the home page not be displayed. It is so frequent and common that there should be an easy, obvious option to turn that off without having to search for the code and paste it into the style.css of the child theme. This should be a new feature for 2012.
Looks weak :S What I would like to have is more like a basic theme development framework which includes several business web site tools, like a common front page header slider, easy to customize, a front page content builder capable of gather content from categories, tags, pages (specially pages), etc.
I use WordPress as a Web site development tool for customers and having to code my themes from scratch is getting boring, so please pass the message to the team.

I’m not sure its exactly representative of 2012, but it’s certainly much better than the earlier ones. Can’t wait!
I’m not sure what people are expecting when they say it “looks weak”, etc.
The idea, it seems like, is to give you a foundation to work with instead of giving you a bunch of “l33t fx”. Build your own CSS or buy a theme if you’re not able. Or if you’re like me, enjoy the simplicity for journaling and customize it to suit your needs.
A default theme shouldn’t be tied to a specific style with graphic elements that don’t age well.
