How to Clean Out the BuddyPress Activity Stream

When creating a BuddyPress site you will probably do lots of testing before officially launching. If you’ve filled up your activity stream with test comments, you’ll want to dump it before opening the site to your community. There are a couple of ways to do this.

Option 1: Empty the Activity table in your database.

This option involves getting into your database. Find the wp_bp_activity table and empty it.

Option 2: Empty all Activity entries in the Dashboard.

BuddyPress Activity Plus is a popular, highly-rated plugin on wordpress.org with nearly 12,000 downloads. It’s an absolute must-have plugin for any BuddyPress community, making the activity stream much more interactive by adding a user-friendly interface for posting multimedia updates.

Based on user feedback, we’ve updated the plugin to include a few more enhancements and features:

New BuddyPress Tweet Button Plugin – Download Here

As you may have heard, Twitter has come out with its official Tweet button that can be added to websites. Modemlooper has created a plugin for BuddyPress that will automatically add the tweet button to your BuddyPress activity stream items and blog posts. It’s a great plugin and everything works, except the link that it tweets out is the page that you’re on, not the actual activity permalink. How to Get BuddyPress Activity to Show On the Homepage

Getting BudyPress activity to show on the front page should be as easy as adjusting your Reading settings to show a static front page with the Activity Stream selected:

However, if you’re currently using WordPress 3.0, you’ll find that you get a 404 on the homepage when you do this. This is due to the fact that WP 3.0 requires there to be a non-null post in the posts array. Grab this patch to fix the issue and you’ll be good to go.

Allow BuddyPress Users to Edit Their Status Updates After Posting

BuddyPress Edit Activity Stream is a new plugin that lets users edit their own status updates for a certain period of time after posting them. It also allows the site admin to edit any activity update with the exception of forum topics and replies. This can be especially useful for educational or more informational BuddyPress sites where status updates tend to correspond to important announcements and notes for referencing later.
