A new free e-commerce plugin has arrived on the scene for WordPress users. Jigoshop launched last month with the tagline: “A WordPress eCommerce plugin that works”. The plugin prides itself in being lightweight, extensible, and awesome right out of the box.

Jigoshop comes with a wide range of widgets and shortcodes for displaying products anywhere within posts and pages. Shortcodes are available for featured products, recent products, products by ID, products by SKU, and products displayed from multiple IDs and SKUs.

How to Bulk Upload Files to the WordPress Media Library Using FTP

The WordPress media library is fairly decent for uploading multiple files at once from your computer. However, copying hundreds of files from another location on your server is another story.

You might think that you could simply drop the files into your uploads folder and have them appear in your media library. This is not the case, because WordPress will not recognize those files unless they come through the dashboard uploader.

The Add From Server plugin offers a solution to this problem. It allows you to import media and files into the WordPress uploads manager from any location on your server.

MarketPress Gets a New Manual Payment Gateway in Preparation for 2.0

MarketPress – WordPress eCommerce from WPMU DEV has just been updated. As well as some minor bug fixes we’ve now included manual payment gateways. This means that your customers can now pay you using methods such as cash, check and EFTs.

To set up your new manual payment gateway, go to the MarketPress settings in your dashboard:

Single Site – Products > Store Settings > Payments
Multsite – Network Admin > Settings > MarketPress

Here you can decide which payment method(s) you want to accept:

Due to changes in the USPS API early this year, many sites with shopping carts have had to update their shipping code. WP E-commerce is one of the more popular plugins for WordPress users and thousands of sites are selling with it. The GetShopped.org team has been working on an Advanced Shipping Plugin for WP E-Commerce which will be integrated into version 3.8 / 3.9 depending on time constraints. Nokia recently open-sourced its proprietary operating system in hopes of being able to continue to compete in the smartphone market. Netflix is one company that opted for open source technologies early on to help power its operations and it continues to give back to the community. The software that powers Facebook is almost entirely open source and custom-written for its needs. Superpower Amazon.com also uses open-source software for nearly everything they operate.

Groupon Clone Plugin for WordPress Now in Beta

The Instinct team over at GetShopped.org has got something interesting cooking. They’ve written a plugin that essentially clones Groupon functionality for WordPress websites. In case you’re not familiar with the concept, Groupon is a hugely successful deal-of-the-day website that offers localized specials for consumers in major geographic markets around the world.
