All WordPress blogs should have favicons (the little icon that displays to the left of the website address in your browser screen). The default WordPress favicon just smacks of amateurism. And you’re not an amateur, right?

Fortunately, installing a favicon on your WordPress site is a piece of cake. And although there are plugins available that can do it for you, such a task definitely falls into the “you do absolutely not need to use a plugin to do this” category. After all, you want to keep your site lean and mean.

It doesn’t matter what kind of site you have, you absolutely need a favicon. It identifies your site within the the browser’s address bar and tabs, as well as serving as the icon when someone bookmarks your site. You really don’t want to leave this as the default icon, because you’ll miss out on a chance to brand for your site.

Google Plus doesn’t seem to be fading away anytime soon. If you’re an avid user and want to use your Google Plus profile picture as the favicon for your WordPress site, here’s how:

Download the new Google Plus Favicon plugin. It will automatically generate a G+ favicon for your blog and admin logo. Simply enter your Google Plus ID in the settings:

Click save and you will have a new favicon and admin icon similar to this example:
