What’s New In BuddyPress 1.8

In case you missed it, the first beta of BuddyPress 1.8 was released this week. BuddyPress 1.7 introduced theme compatiblity and a host of other exciting features. Although 1.8 has had a shorter release cycle, it’s still packed with some very cool new features and improvements.

Here’s a little bit of what you can expect from BuddyPress 1.8:

BP_Group_Extension Rewritten
Many BuddyPress plugins interface with the groups component. The BP_Group_Extension has been rewritten to make it faster for plugins that depend on it. The new changes will make writing group extension plugins much easier than before.

BuddyPress 1.6 has finally dropped! We’ve all been waiting on the edge of our seats and this makes for a happy Monday.

Last night I heard hints from @bptrac on Twitter of BuddyPress 1.6 about to be released:

WordPress 3.4 Green Released with Tons of New Customization Options

The big news this week is that WordPress 3.4 has dropped, and we’re excited about all of the fancy new goodies. The release is called “Green”, named after jazz guitarist and composer Grant Green.

WordPress 3.4 Release Candidate Now Available

WordPress has announced the first release candidate for WordPress Version 3.4.

A “release candidate” is the final test version before mainstream public release. In other words, the current release candidate is pretty much what the final version will look like. Unless some major surprises pop up, there is only the crossing of T’s and dotting of I’s at this stage.

In order to get the current release candidate, you can download the WordPress Beta Tester plugin or download the release candidate (zip file).

Time to Upgrade: Welcome to WordPress 3.3 “Sonny”

It’s late here in the UK but I couldn’t drag my carcass to bed without letting you all know that WordPress 3.3 has dropped which means it’s time for you to put your upgrade hats on, get out your FTP program, flex your clicking finger, and turn your WordPress into 3.3.

WordPress 3.3 has been named after saxophonist Sonny Stitt. Check out the video from wp.org:

Update Now to WordPress 3.2.1

WordPress 3.2 was a big, exciting update for WordPress users with quite a few new features. WordPress 3.2.1 hit the shelves today, but don’t worry – it’s just a maintenance release. You’ll want to upgrade when you get a chance, especially if you’ve been experiencing some problems after your last upgrade.

WordPress 3.2 RC2 Available for Download

Every day the launch of WordPress 3.2 edges a bit closer. With the arrival of WordPress 3.2 RC2 it’s so close that I can smell all of that freshly pressed code. Delicious! If you haven’t tested yet, now’s the time as we’re now in the final stages.

Changes made since RC1 include a number of tweaks to Twenty-Eleven, new theme support for randomized headers, and various RTL fixes.

WordPress 3.2 Release Candidate Available Now

You can now get yourself a copy of WordPress 3.2 (RC1).

The release candidate comes after the beta but before the final release. It’s a great time for you to get involved with testing.

This isn’t just a time for WordPress end-users to get busy. It’s a time of furious activity for everyone.

Plugins and Theme developers tests check to make sure that they are working
Users test out everything that you use to make sure there are no final bugs
Writers update documentation to make sure that it’s up-to-date with any changes

Beta Testers: Get Your Fingers Ready for WordPress 3.2

Beta 1 of WordPress 3.2 has been released. This means that all of you who get dribbly about reporting bugs will be able to spend the next six weeks getting your kicks. Don’t install 3.2 on a production site! You’ll get no sympathy if you show up on the support forums all “wtf! WordPress 3.2 totally broke my website.”

There are some thing to be aware of:

PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5 required
Internet Explorer 6 no longer support – YAY! W00t! WOOOO HOOOOOO *loud cheers from around the world*
