Plugin no. 95 – Blogs Directory

The countdown continues with plugin number 95… the blogs directory plugin.

This one is a direct relation of the members list plugin and operates in a very similar way… except this time for blogs.

Once installed you need to simply creates a new page at with the slug blogs and it’ll place a rather beautiful directory of all of the blogs on it.

The blogs will display alphabetically and in a paginated form – which you can easily change with a few tweaks.

Alongside each blog is displayed it’s avatar (as set by our avatar plugin).

This is a powerful plugin that does a pretty simple thing.

It creates a page, on the homepage of your site, of all the users that are registered at your site (and haven’t opted out of being listed using the privacy options).

But… it doesn’t stop there!

It also creates for each use on your site and extended membership profile.

This incorporates not only biographical information as entered into the users ‘Profile’ area – but also a listing of their latest posts, latest comments and (if you have it installed) our friends plugin… with the facility to add a friend built in!

The penultimate entry into this ‘best of’ content might also come as a bit of a surprise… the comment indexer and post indexer plugins

They might come as a particular shock as they, in themselves, do absolutely nothing for you… but (and it’s a big but) they power and make possible global tags, post listings, feeds and a heck of a lot more, in fact, their very existence means that the following plugins are possible:

Tag Posts – to display a lists of posts that have been tagged with a specific tag/category
