Fancy getting your hands dirty in 2009 with some seriously cool WPMU work?

Or, do you know anyone who you think might enjoy this challenge… well, let them know and we’ll throw in a free annual WPMU DEV Premium subscription (or extension) for any good referrals (don’t have to be the winning ones)?

Well, we’ve gt a job offering:

Edublogs SysAdmin / Code Wrangler

We’re looking for someone experienced in complex LAMP setups, php, mysql, WordPress (WPMU a bonus) and scaling to become a key member of the Edublogs team.

We’re a spread out bunch so you can work from wherever you like, we’re also flexible over time (min 2 days p/week to start with) and are happy to pay good money for the right person.

The role basically involves:

  • Performance monitoring, analysis and solutions for http://edublogs.org (seeing what’s going wrong and why.. and then fixing it)
  • Fixing up inefficient & problematic core WPMU components and issues with our existing and developing custom code (constantly improving and tweaking our setup)
  • Management of WPMU upgrades on Edublogs.org (maintaining development & production sites, testing testing testing, developing custom upgrade mechanisms etc.)
  • Coordinating optimal server configuration / caching etc. with our hosts (we use peer1 managed hosting)

And we’re looking for someone to start right away!

Who are we?

Edublogs is one of the largest WordPress MU sites on the web with over a quarter of a million blogs and a fair amount of traffic: http://www.quantcast.com/edublogs.org/traffic

We make our revenue from a limited amount of advertising, ‘supporter’ upgrades (extra features, storage etc.) and Edublogs Campus on an institutional basis and are growing our revenue at a very decent % year on year. We have no debts and are obliged to no VC firms J

We’re also the people behind http://incsub.com and http://wpmudev.org – so there’s plenty of scope for people to get involved in other interesting WordPress MU related projects.

What’s next?

Please contact us at admin (at) incsub /dot/ com or via our general interest work form:
http://incsub.com/work-incsub/

Please let us know about:

  • Your experience in LAMP setups, php, mysql, wordpress/wpmu and scaling
  • As many examples as you can muster… references are great but real (large) sites are even better
  • If you’ve written any WP/WPMU code/plugins, could you send us that too
  • Your availability, standard fees and some general stuff about yourself

We’re looking to take on someone as soon as possible, so the quicker you can get in touch with us, the higher the chance that we’ll be able to work something out!

Here’s the above as a pdf for ease of printing out and handling to people too :)

  1. Interesting and congrats on the expansion – I’ll send it along to one or two people who may fit the bill, but most of the more “useful” people I know are all super-busy at the moment.

  2. Wish I have the skills required, especially the scaling option. I have interest in education and research subject and some LAMP skill, but I think this job needs skills that is just too steep to learn from the one who only maintain a wordpress site on a free host.

I’ll try to spread the words as much as I can, though :)

  3. darn it, another opuuritunity I can’t take advantage of… don’t know anything about scaling. call me when you need infrastructure.
