WordPress 3.6 to Ship in Two Weeks

WordPress 3.6 to Ship in Two Weeks

It was a day late, but nonetheless, the first release candidate for WordPress 3.6 is out.

Lead core developer Mark Jaquith posted at WordPress News on Saturday that the first release candidate was ready and the core team hopes to ship WordPress 3.6 in “a couple of weeks”.

Jaquith also put a call out to folks to help test the latest release.

Debugging WordPress
Try out the WordPress 3.6 release candidate and don’t forget to report any bugs.

“If you haven’t tested 3.6 yet, there’s no time like the present. (But please: not on a live production site, unless you’re feeling especially adventurous),” he says.

“Developers, please test your plugins and themes, so that if there is a compatibility issue, we can sort it out before the final release.”

He’s also encouraged anyone who finds bugs to post to the Alpha/Beta area in the WordPress.org support forums.

Any known issues with the release candidate will be posted at Make WordPress Core.

Jaquith also reminded users the Post Formats UI, which was originally planned to be a major feature of version 3.6, had been back out of the release.

“On the other hand, our slick new revisions browser had some extra time to develop. You should see it with 200+ revisions loaded — scrubbing back and forth at lightning speed is a thing of beauty,” he says.

To test the release candidate, try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin or download the zip file directly.

In true Automattic style, Jaquith signed off his post with a parting haiku…

Delayed, but still loved
The release will be out soon
Test it, por favour
