CORRECT ANSWERS

1. (True/False) Pages typically include the date they were published.

Difficulty – Easy (2/10)

Answer: False

“Posts” typically include the date they were published; however, “pages” do not. This is controlled by your theme, and so it can vary, of course.

2. (True/False) The section for sidebar links in WordPress is labeled “Blogroll” in the Admin area.

Difficulty – Easy (3/10)

Answer: False

The links section in WordPress used to be labeled “Blogroll.” Now, however, it is labeled “Links.”

3. (True/False)  WordPress comes with both an Import and an Export function.

Difficulty – Medium (4/10)

Answer: True

4.  When setting up a new “Category,” what is the “Slug” used for?

Difficulty – Medium-Hard (7/10)

Answer:  The “slug” is the URL-friendly version of the name. It is usually all lowercase and contains only letters, numbers, and hyphens.

For many people, the name of the category and the slug will be the same, but it doesn’t have to be. The “Name” can be more user-friendly, and the “slug” might be more search-engine friendly.

5.  What is the WordPress codex?

Difficulty – Hard (8/10)

Answer: The WordPress Codex is “the online manual for WordPress and a living repository for WordPress information and documentation.”

A codex is the earliest form of a book. It replaced scrolls and wax tablets. The word “codex” comes from Latin meaning “trunk of a tree” or a “block of wood.”

On the main menu at WordPress.org, the Codex can be accessed by the more user-friendly menu tab named “Docs.”

If you missed the first quiz, you can find it here. (It should be pretty easy.)

  1. @Brian Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I’ve thought before that an interactive quiz would maybe be better, and I may lobby for that if it seems people are interested in these quizzes (we’re still testing them out at the moment). However, we’d also have to see what types of plugins are available–whether they’re flexible enough to include different types of media in both the questions and the answers, etc.
