Isn’t the point of being responsive being unobtrusive beautiful instead of showing of? This extra server request just has no use to let me make the site being slower.
IMO, it has use, but only for theme developers on their theme for sale demo…

How would you define “Responsive Design”?
I never thought of it as restricting the designer in how they “show off” or demonstrate their creative ability. I’ve also seen responsive designs which I would not describe as beautiful or unobtrusive.
As SmashingMagazine put it:
“Responsive Web design is the approach that suggests that design and development should respond to the user’s behavior and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation. The practice consists of a mix of flexible grids and layouts, images and an intelligent use of CSS media queries. As the user switches from their laptop to iPad, the website should automatically switch to accommodate for resolution, image size and scripting abilities. In other words, the website should have the technology to automatically respond to the user’s preferences. This would eliminate the need for a different design and development phase for each new gadget on the market.”
So Responsive, being that it responds to its environment and resolution.
Being able to resize something in my iPad whilst the theme is responsive is pretty cool, Doesn’t mean it goes against the grain of being a Responsive Theme.
