Do you ever feel limited when adding an image to a post or page with only thumbnail, medium, large and full sizes to choose from? These are handy if they work for your theme, but sometimes the height or width can be awkward. Install the Additional image sizes (zui) plugin and you’ll be given a new menu item under Media >> Images Sizes where you can create custom image sizes that will be added to the default sizes.
Now you can resize to your custom sizes with ease! This plugin is a fork the original Additional Image Sizes plugin. Additional image sizes (zui) enhances it, fixes a few bugs, and is available for free in the WordPress plugin repository.
Now there's no need to pay for a third party service to sign up, manage and send beautiful email newsletters to your subscriber base - this plugin has got the lot.
Simply insert google maps into posts, sidebars and pages - show directions, streetview, provide image overlays and do it all from a simple button and comprehensive widget.
To get a wiki up and running you used to need to install Mediawiki and toil away for days configuring it... not any more! This plugin gives you *all* the functionality you want from a wiki, in WordPress!!!
Would you like to add Facebook comments, registration, 'Like' buttons and autoposting to your WP site? Well, The Ultimate Facebook plugin has got that all covered!
If you're thinking about starting a paid, or just private, membership site then this is truly the plugin you've been looking for. Easy to use, massively configurable and ready to go out of the box!
Fully integrated with the SEOMoz API, complete with automatic links, sitemaps and SEO optimization of your WordPress setup - this is the only plugin you need to help you rank your site number 1 on Google - nothing else compares.
It's now incredibly easy to start your own Q&A site using nothing more than WordPress - The Q&A plugin simply and brilliantly transforms any site, or page, into a perfect support or Q&A environment.
Sarah thank you for mentioning the updated plugin. I did the fork and rewrite of Additional Image Sizes.
@Tom One of the feature additions in the new version was the ability to resize the predefined WordPress sizes ‘thumbnail’, ‘medium’, and ‘large’. I do a lot of custom client themes and many of the designs require more than one thumbnail size for various slideshows and other “featured” lists etc… So for me the additional sizes were vital even if there are extra copies being created. However, I agree if you don’t need to create extra sizes you shouldn’t so it was even more vital to be able to resize the predefined sizes if those get changed instead of letting the browser resize those from the larger image (for previously uploaded images).
Also in the hours after you posted this article Sarah I released a newer version (0.1.5) that also added the ability to delete images for deleted sizes.
Cool! Thanks! :-)
Interesting, but is there an plugin to choose which sizes will be generated on uploading? I don’t need 4 or more versions of one image. ;)
