Featplug

Featplug is a plugin that can mine your WordPress -even WordPress MU-, (or any other Blog/CMS/Forum software’s) posts and generates ‘featured content’ section for your blog using the posts and images.

Features:

  • Image caching (once a image is re-sized & rendered by plugin, it’s cached for future hits which saves lots of performance)
  • Template support ( embedding & editing any output template is easy. You can just use any JS/Ajax script to output the contents!)
  • Layered architecture: input_layer (Standalone, WordPress etc) → featplug engine → output theme (simple banners, slide show etc)
  • Image enlarging
Benefits for WordPress MU:
As MU is multiuser environment, the main page for your MU blog can just generate featured content for your visitors from all the different authors.

  1. Yes, it’s like featurific but the difference is featurific is a hardcoded & flash based plugin where featplug is not hardcoded on any flash.

It can just use flash as-well but with the template support, customization is quite easy

  2. Thank you!

Last question: Is there an option to assign a default image if the plugin doesn’t find one in a post (when a post doesn’t have any images in it).

I would like to use the plugin to ALWAYS display my last 5 posts (even if the post doesn’t have a image in it). Currently, by design (I suppose), the plugin doesn’t include post in the slideshow if the post doesn’t have an image.

(Technically, I can get around quirk by adding a 1 pixel transparent gif at the beginning of a post)… and theoretically, the plugin will resize that image to whatever dimension I want… if I set image resizing to “true”, hence no posts will ever be skipped. I was hoping there was an easier way via the plugin settings?)

  3. Sorry, one last thing (then I go away until next update, promise… hehe). In Internet Explorer 7, this error always pops up (I also verified issue on your demo site):

    Line: 521
    Char: 4
    Error: Type mismatch
    Code: 0

But totally fine in Firefox 2 & 3.

(Side note: I didn’t realize until now that I had accidentally typed my e-mail address in “Name” field in 2 previous comments. Could you please change those to “fruityoaty”, if it’s not too much trouble… as spambots might harvest my e-mail that way. SORRY.)

  4. Hi

Is there any way to show content of one category only on WPMU. Plugin is great and works fine but it’s showing images from all posts no matter which category they belong to.

    Thanks in advance

  5. Hi I’ve been tring to get this plugin to work for ages but no luck… i am using it on MU but what ever combination of the direct call i use it pulls old posts from my sub blogs and non from the main one!

Please help, all i need it to do is show the last 5 or so posts from the main blog!
