Get a WordPress.com Style Countdown Timer Widget for Your Self-Hosted Blog
In my opinion, there is no contest between WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress. I’ll take ownership of my site every day of the week, thank you very much.
But for all of its limitations, WordPress.com does offer up some pretty cool features. One such feature is a “milestone” widget, in which you can easily insert a rather elegantly styled countdown to an event.
But with a new plugin released today on the WordPress.org repository, you can now have your own milestone widget for your self-hosted blog.
Milestone
The Milestone plugin is an absolute piece of cake to set up. It is available in the widgets section of your blog, and comes with a few basic fields for you to fill in. Here’s an example of a widget that counts down to my birthday:

The message is what will be displayed when the countdown is completed. Everything else is self-explanatory. This is the end result:
